Writesonic vs Jasper vs Copy.ai: Real AI Content Marketing Cost per 100 Articles in 2026
The short answer: the software is the small line. Across 10, 100 and 1,000 articles a month, reported plan prices work out to roughly $200–$1,000 of software per 100 articles, while human editing at 15, 45 or 90 minutes an article costs $1,125, $3,375 or $6,750 per 100 articles at a $45 loaded hourly rate. At 45 minutes of editing, software is only about 6–8% of the total on Writesonic or Jasper and about 23% on Copy.ai's $1,000 workflow plan. All three vendors also repositioned in 2026: Writesonic moved toward AI-search visibility with article limits per plan, Jasper retired its $39 tier and prices per seat, and Copy.ai split into a $29 chat plan and workflow plans from $1,000 a month. A generated draft is not a finished article, so the break-even question is how many editor minutes a tool saves per article.
What each vendor bills
Writesonic (REPORTED). Plan prices differ by source and date. Listings from April 2026 show Lite $39–$49 a month (about 15 articles), Standard $79–$99 (30 articles, 2 seats), Professional $199–$249 (100 articles, 40 site audits, AI search tracking) and Advanced $399–$499 (200 articles, 5 seats), annual versus monthly billing. A report checked in August 2026 says self-serve plans now start at $79 a month billed annually ($99 monthly). Both are shown here. Enterprise is custom. Article limits per plan, site audits and seat counts are the meters, and SEO scoring and a SurferSEO integration are part of the product; plagiarism and fact-checking tools were not itemized (QUOTE-ONLY / UNKNOWN).
Jasper (REPORTED). The $39 Creator tier was retired. Pro is $59 a month per seat billed annually ($69 monthly) with 2 Brand Voices and 5 knowledge assets, and Business is custom-priced with unlimited voices and assets, API access, SSO and a customer success manager. Sources disagree on whether Pro includes one seat or up to five, so this article prices Pro per seat. There is no published article limit; the meter is seats.
Copy.ai (REPORTED). A Chat plan at $29 a month ($24 annual) with unlimited words and 5 seats, workflow plans from $1,000 a month (Growth: 75 seats and 20,000 workflow credits a month, billed annually), and Expansion and Scale plans at about $2,000–$3,000 a month (150–200 seats, 45,000–75,000 workflow credits). Workflow automation and API use consume workflow credits; the cost per credit was not listed (QUOTE-ONLY / UNKNOWN).
The model
Software cost is the monthly plan needed to cover the article volume. Editing rates are ILLUSTRATIVE: 15, 45 and 90 minutes of human editing per article at a loaded $45 an hour.
Formulas: software cost per 100 articles = monthly software cost ÷ (articles per month ÷ 100); editing cost per 100 articles = 100 × minutes ÷ 60 × $45; total per 100 = software + editing.
| Editing time per article | Editing cost per article | Editing cost per 100 articles |
|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | $11.25 | $1,125 |
| 45 minutes | $33.75 | $3,375 |
| 90 minutes | $67.50 | $6,750 |
Software cost by volume
| Articles per month | Writesonic | Jasper (per seat, 25 articles per writer, ILLUSTRATIVE) | Copy.ai |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Lite $39–$49 (or $79–$99 if the August entry price applies) | 1 seat: $59–$69 | Chat $24–$29 |
| 100 | Professional $199–$249 | 4 seats: $236–$276 | Growth $1,000 for workflow automation, or Chat $24–$29 for chat-only drafting |
| 1,000 | Above Advanced's 200 articles: QUOTE-ONLY / UNKNOWN; five Advanced plans would be $1,995–$2,495 as a reference calculation, not a supported setup | 40 seats at the Pro rate: $2,360–$2,760 as a reference; Business is custom | Expansion or Scale $2,000–$3,000 |
Software cost per 100 articles:
| Articles per month | Writesonic | Jasper | Copy.ai |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $390–$490 | $590–$690 | $240–$290 |
| 100 | $199–$249 | $236–$276 | $1,000 (Growth) |
| 1,000 | $200–$250 (reference) | $236–$276 (reference) | $200–$300 |
Small volumes are priced by the plan floor: at 10 articles, software costs two to three times more per 100 articles than at 100. Above 100 articles a month, the reported per-article software cost converges near $2–$3 across all three.
Total cost including editing
At 100 articles a month:
| Editing per article | Writesonic Professional | Jasper, 4 seats | Copy.ai Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | $1,324–$1,374 | $1,361–$1,401 | $2,125 |
| 45 minutes | $3,574–$3,624 | $3,611–$3,651 | $4,375 |
| 90 minutes | $6,949–$6,999 | $6,986–$7,026 | $7,750 |
Software is 5.6–6.9% of the total on Writesonic and 6.5–7.6% on Jasper at 45 minutes of editing, and 22.9% on Copy.ai Growth. At 1,000 articles a month, editing labor at 45 minutes is $33,750 a month against $2,000–$3,000 of software.
Break-even editor hours saved
Formula: hours needed = software cost per 100 articles ÷ $45. Per article: minutes needed = software cost per article ÷ $45 × 60.
| Software cost per 100 articles | Editor hours to break even | Minutes saved per article |
|---|---|---|
| $199–$249 (Writesonic Professional) | 4.4–5.5 | 2.7–3.3 |
| $236–$276 (Jasper) | 5.2–6.1 | 3.1–3.7 |
| $390–$490 (Writesonic Lite at 10 a month) | 8.7–10.9 | 5.2–6.5 |
| $1,000 (Copy.ai Growth) | 22.2 | 13.3 |
The tool has to save roughly 3 to 4 editing minutes per article at 100 articles a month, or 13 minutes on the $1,000 workflow plan, before the license cost is recovered. Whether it saves that time depends on draft quality, and the software cost is not a measure of it.
Sensitivity
- Editing time. Moving from 15 to 90 minutes multiplies total cost per 100 articles by about 5, while the software line barely changes.
- Plan floor versus meter. Copy.ai's $1,000 workflow plan is 4 to 5 times the per-article software cost of the article-limited plans at 100 articles, but it buys automation credits and 75 seats, not just drafts.
- Seat count. Jasper's cost scales with writers, not articles, so a team that edits 50 articles per writer needs half the seats and half the software cost.
- Entry-price conflict. Writesonic's entry price is $39–$49 in April listings and $79–$99 in August, a difference of $30–$50 a month.
Budgeting traps
- Counting generations as articles. A draft that needs 90 minutes of editing costs more in labor than the software that produced it.
- Article limits versus word limits. Writesonic limits articles; Jasper and Copy.ai Chat are described as unlimited words but limited by seats.
- Hidden add-ons. Plagiarism checks, fact-checking, research tools and API usage were not itemized by any vendor.
- Retired tiers. Comparison pages that still list Jasper's $39 Creator or Copy.ai's old individual plan are out of date.
What to ask before you buy
Ask each vendor for the plan needed at your monthly article count, what counts as an article or a credit, what the API and workflow credits cost, and whether brand voice, SEO scoring and fact-checking are included. Then time your editors on real drafts, because that number decides the total.
