Intercom Fin vs Zendesk AI vs Ada: Real AI Customer Support Cost per Resolved Ticket in 2026

DIRECT ANSWER

The short answer

Fin charges $0.99 per outcome, published on its own pricing page. Zendesk charges for automated resolutions on top of per-agent seats; third-party readers of Zendesk's pricing page in September 2026 report $1.50 on committed volume and $2.00 pay-as-you-go, with a small included allowance that Zendesk describes in two different ways. Ada is quote-only. In a hypothetical team, Fin comes to $1.20–$1.25 per resolution all-in, Zendesk $1.62–$2.16. Whether any of it saves money depends on how many resolved conversations remove paid human work: the break-even is about 10% of resolved conversations for Fin at $0.99, 15% for Zendesk at $1.50 and 20% at $2.00, using an assumed $10 human cost per conversation.

Zendesk retired the separate Advanced AI Agents add-on; AI agents are included in Support and Suite plans.

Scenario: hypothetical support team (not vendor pricing)

Assumptions: the AI resolves 50% of inbound conversations; one agent handles 400 conversations a month; a fully loaded agent costs $4,000 a month ($10 per human conversation); seats needed after automation are the remaining conversations ÷ 400 rounded up; Fin on Intercom Advanced ($85); Zendesk on Suite Team ($55). Zendesk is shown under both allowance readings (count: 5 resolutions per agent; dollar: $2 per seat) at the reported rates.

Formulas, 10,000-row: Fin = 13 × $85 + 5,000 × $0.99 = $6,055. Zendesk (count, $1.50) = 13 × $55 + (5,000 − 65) × $1.50 = $8,117.50; (dollar) = 13 × $55 + (5,000 × $1.50 − 13 × $2) = $8,189.

Ada: reported contract data, shown separately

Ada does not publish prices and its pricing URL routes to a demo request. Reported by third parties: a base platform fee of about $30,000 a year, $1–$3.50 per resolution, and a median contract of $70,001 a year across 96 purchases (CorePiper, 5 Apr 2026, citing Vendr); Ada itself describes conversation-based, not resolution-based, pricing (Ada, 13 Jul 2026). Several of these sources are competitors and contract definitions vary. Applying the reported figures as an illustration: $30,000 ÷ 12 = $2,500 a month plus $1–$3.50 per resolution gives $3,500–$6,000 at 1,000 resolutions, $7,500–$20,000 at 5,000 and $22,500–$72,500 at 20,000, before helpdesk seats. No ranking against Fin or Zendesk can be stated from these figures.

When automation pays

The break-even displacement share is fee ÷ human cost per conversation: $0.99 ÷ $10 = 9.9%; $1.50 ÷ $10 = 15%; $2.00 ÷ $10 = 20%. If a five-agent team keeps every agent, Fin at 1,000 resolutions adds $990 a month to $425 of seats (total $1,415) with nothing offset. If two agents' workload is displaced ($8,000 a month of loaded labor at the assumed $4,000 per agent), the same $990 of fees avoids $8,000 of labor.

What the advertised price misses

Fin counts an "assumed" resolution when the customer leaves without asking for more; a reopened conversation is refunded per Intercom's pricing page. Zendesk's allowance follows agent count, not volume, and the wording of your contract decides which allowance model applies. Copilot, channel fees (voice, SMS, WhatsApp) and escalations are outside all of these rates.

Comparison limits

Fin's $0.99 and seat prices are read from its own pages (official). Zendesk's $1.50/$2.00 rates, seat prices and both allowance readings are reported, and Zendesk publishes no rate in its documentation according to two July 2026 reviews. The tables are a hypothetical team (illustrative), and Fin on Intercom Advanced seats versus Zendesk Suite Team seats are not equivalent feature tiers. A Fin outcome and a Zendesk verified resolution are defined differently, and Ada is excluded from every comparison because it is quote-only.
