AWS Textract vs Google Document AI vs Azure AI Document Intelligence: Real Cost per 100,000 Pages
Rates are list prices in USD, pay-as-you-go. AWS: US West (Oregon), as published on 25 September 2026. Google: global list, as published on 28 September 2026. Azure: US, as reported by third-party trackers in July–August 2026 (Azure's pricing page renders rates dynamically). All three use volume tiers that apply marginally: only pages beyond a threshold in a month get the lower rate.
The short answer
Plain OCR costs $1.50 per 1,000 pages on all three, so 100,000 pages cost about $150. Structured extraction costs between $10 and $65 per 1,000 pages, so the same 100,000 pages cost $1,000 to $6,500. Google's invoice parser is priced per document up to 10 pages, not per page, so a one-page invoice costs $0.10 (equivalent to $100 per 1,000 pages) while a ten-page invoice costs the same $0.10 ($10 per 1,000 pages).
Rates by capability (per 1,000 pages unless noted)
| Capability | AWS Textract | Google Document AI | Azure Document Intelligence |
|---|---|---|---|
| OCR | $1.50 first 1M pages, $0.60 above | $1.50 from page 1,001 to 5M, $0.60 above; first 1,000 pages free | $1.50 (Read); $0.60 above 1M (reported) |
| Layout / tables | Tables $15, then $10 above 1M; Layout free with Tables | Layout Parser $10 | Layout $10 |
| Forms / key-value | Forms $50, then $40 above 1M | Form Parser $30, then $20 above 1M | prebuilt-document $10 (reported) |
| Forms + tables | $65 ($50 + $15), then $50 above 1M | Form Parser (covers both) $30 | Layout / prebuilt-document $10 |
| Invoices | Analyze Expense $10, then $8 above 1M pages | Invoice parser: $0.10 per document of up to 10 pages | Prebuilt invoice $10 (reported) |
| Custom extraction | Custom Queries $25, then $15 above 1M | Custom extractor $30, then $20 above 1M | Custom extraction $30, then $20 above 1M (reported) |
| Classifier | Not a separate line | Custom classifier / splitter $5, then $3 above 1M | Classifier $3 (reported) |
| Add-ons | Signatures $3.50 | OCR add-ons $6 | $6 per add-on; query fields $10 (reported) |
| Hosting | None | Custom processors $0.05/hour per deployed version ($36.50 for a 730-hour month) | Custom model hosting not itemized in trackers reviewed |
Which features add up: AWS publishes combinations as single rates. Forms + Tables is the sum ($0.065 per page), but Tables + Queries is $0.020 and Forms + Tables + Queries is $0.070, both less than the sum of their parts. Google's OCR add-ons and Azure's add-ons are additive ($6 each). Google's Form Parser already includes tables and key-values.
Page-based workloads (first-tier price)
| Pages per month | OCR (AWS / Google / Azure) | Forms + tables: AWS | Form Parser: Google | Layout / prebuilt-document: Azure | Custom extraction: Google / Azure | Custom Queries: AWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $15 / $13.50 / $15 | $650 | $300 | $100 | $300 / $300 | $250 |
| 100,000 | $150 / $148.50 / $150 | $6,500 | $3,000 | $1,000 | $3,000 / $3,000 | $2,500 |
| 1,000,000 | $1,500 / $1,498.50 / $1,500 | $65,000 | $30,000 | $10,000 | $30,000 / $30,000 | $25,000 |
Google OCR = (pages − 1,000) × $1.50 ÷ 1,000. Marginal tier example: 1.5 million pages of Form Parser cost 1,000,000 × $30 ÷ 1,000 + 500,000 × $20 ÷ 1,000 = $40,000; AWS forms + tables cost $65,000 + $25,000 = $90,000.
Invoice workload: same pages, different documents
Invoice cost depends on document length for Google. For 100,000 pages of invoices:
| Invoice length | Documents | Google invoice parser ($0.10 per document) | AWS Analyze Expense ($0.01 per page) | Azure prebuilt invoice ($0.01 per page, reported) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 page | 100,000 | $10,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 |
| 3 pages | 33,333 | $3,333 | $1,000 | $1,000 |
| 10 pages | 10,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 |
At 10,000 and 1,000,000 pages the same rows are $100 / $1,000 / $10,000 (AWS, Azure) and, for 3-page invoices, $333 and $33,333 (Google). Google's effective cost per page is never below $0.01: it equals AWS's and Azure's $0.01 only when a document is an exact multiple of 10 pages, and is higher for every other length (an 11-page invoice costs $0.20, or about $0.018 per page). Per-document limits apply: documents over 10 pages cannot use synchronous calls, and batch documents are capped at 200 pages.
What the advertised price misses
- Basic OCR is not a proxy for extraction: the same page can cost 6 to 43 times more.
- Custom processors on Google carry hosting of $438 a year per deployed version whether or not they are used.
- Custom model training on Azure is billed by the hour after a free allowance (reported), and labeling effort sits outside any per-page rate.
- Negotiated commitments (Azure commitment tiers, Google savings plans at 10–20% off list) are not modeled.
Break-even points
- Google invoice parser versus per-page invoice parsers: equal at exactly 10 pages per document; more expensive at every other length, and ten times more expensive for one-page invoices.
- Layout versus Form Parser: Azure at $10 is one third of Google's $30.
- Custom versus prebuilt: custom extraction at $30 costs three times a $10 prebuilt model.
Comparison limits
AWS rates are official for US West (Oregon); Google's list is official and global; Azure rates are reported by third parties, not read from Azure's rate table, and regional rates elsewhere are not compared. Prices for capabilities that are not equivalent in accuracy (a $10 prebuilt model and a $30 custom model) are shown per capability, not as substitutes. Page-count assumptions (one capability per page, no retries) and volume tiers applied marginally are as stated above; negotiated commitments are not modeled.
